Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino 6.5.6 fix list and 7.0.2 fix list
(available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

IMAP Client
SPR# DMYG5PPPKP - Error "invalid or nonexistent document" was returned when the
IMAP client opened new mail messages. With this fix, if the error is returned,
a collection list update will be performed and the command retried.

Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino.

Background:
The situation occurs with new messages only when Notes releases after 5.0 are
used as an IMAP client to access any non-Notes/Domino IMAP server (including
Workplace Messaging IMAP servers). Old messages do not generate this error.

This issue did not occur with Notes/Domino 5 clients used as IMAP clients.

If you haven't yet upgraded, you can work around this issue by closing the mail
database and reopening it. The message can then be viewed without issue.

TO REPRODUCE

1. From a Notes IMAP client, compose a message and send it to yourself.

2. Click Refresh --> Summaries so the new message is visible. Click the new
message and you will receive the error message.

3. Switch to another folder and then return to the Inbox. The new message is
missing, but if you click Refresh --> Summaries again, the missing message
appears in the list. You still receive the error message if you try to open it.
